Our BIGGEST transition EVER.
It's been almost a year since we went from living vanlife to buying property to build into our off grid homestead in Tennessee. It's been quite the transition with plenty of ups and down....was it a good change for us? Do we have regrets?

Great video as always. I wasn't around when you were vanlife'ing but I am very much enjoying your homestead journey.
I love your guys's video The honesty education ambition joy and the struggle and you know furry and feathered friends thanks for everything when you get old sometimes you tend to live vicariously through younger people thanks
Dude this sucks! I hope it all worked out. How did it all work out?
love y'all
Some townships stinks they tried to override me and I proved them wrong with there own ordnance book and there solicitor agreed with me they were not happy they were wrong. Sometimes people just want to make it hard for others it makes there day to show there power and they are sick people in my opinion
sounds good
I'm glad you guys are happy with your decision to homestead. Watching you two grow and becoming accomplished in so many things is really inspiring. Best of luck in continuing growing your awesome homestead. Love you guys!
So incredibly hot in Tn. & all over ! You guys got this!!! Baby steps , growing just like the four legged!! Happy Fourth coming !!! Stay cool & hydrated out there!
My tiny house this damn couty would rather people on the street s then to let live in something on there own damn land
Security is what comes to mind first. If you own your own land you can grow your own food without depending much on the grocery store. The food can be much healthier too.
I thought The Netherlands has weird rules....... You win !!
Can't wait to do this after I retire I 5 years. I have a 10 acre farm in Middle TN that I bought back in 2019 for retirement.
Good things take time, it doesn't matter what it is, it takes time to be good. But what is needed is a structured and organised priority list and plan. On any block of land, follow the basics: 1. Access. 2 Purpose. 3. Water..4.. Security for yourself and your property including livestock. 5. Management plan including strategic management plan for property. 6. Fencing and livestock management. 7 Skills assessment. 8. Vegetation and livestock management. 9. Alternative methods. 10. Opportunities.
I would suggest water should always be number 1, access number 2, 3 Security that is boundary fencing adequate to keep livestock in and others out. You will also need access to the boundary. No point getting 100 sheep, lamas or goats if you have no fencing around the perimeter...unless of course you want to spend every waking moment following ya prized milking goats around the property...
You are the greatest. by watching you I have bought me a 40 acre property. Thank you. i am building it to retire on.
You may be able to apply for a “variance” to the most sympathetic entity you’ve dealt with(ie county vs state, or dept vs dept). In many cases like this, once someone provides you a favorable decision in writing no other entity will override the decision as it would then cost them money and or negative publicity.
I've heard vanlifers say it leads to homesteading, so do preppers (not the doomsday type), and a lot of city folk. What that means to me, and is a bit of a caution for me is, Homesteading can be a very very diverse and vibrant community, where every person, couple or family brings so much to the table. The value is immense, if we accept it and don't get that "Appreciation Fatigue".
😊
Awesome video God Bless you and your family Amen
Thank you Matt & Cass for giving an honest view and update of your journey and why you made the decisions to create a homestead.
Great viedo,so relaxing,God bless!!❤
I'm a fairly new viewer who never saw you during your van life. Rather I searched UA-cam for info on Tennessee and that's how I found you both. I've been living in my van since 2013 and you hit on a lot of good points about the pros and cons. After so many years living in my van I'm ready for something new and am moving to Tennessee. I'm looking forward to a new way of life. But like you I won't be selling my van. It's been my home for 11 years and I just can't bring myself to do it. Kudos to you both and hoping your garden is flourishing! Winter gardens are always tougher than summer ones so I'm hoping you reap the rewards of your hard labor this summer 😉
C4YT God Bless
A gas auger works great for our off grid property in Idaho . 72cc has plenty power . 6" 8" and 12" auger .
I have enjoyed very much watching your life’s journey. I know it appears not in the picture, but I would hope one day you could experience the journey and love of a small child growing into a wonderful adult. Hope one day to sit and have a cup of coffee with you two. I am currently live in Alaska and have a farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that I visit as well. Then I make my way in the month of November to North Carolina to visit my family. Keep posting, it’s wonderful content.
It's just that Gypsy soul talking to ya. ✌️❤️🍺
Jack it up and put a full foundation > Done
❤
You're so incredibly inspiring to me! I've been watching you for over a year now and can say that your videos have been the catalyst for where I'm at now in life. Thanks to your cabin video I avoided the mistake of getting one my property. Like you, in a travel trailer for now but goal is to build the future home. First, I have to clear some land. I can so appreciate the work that you have put into your ranch so far. Keep up the great work.
I’m near Bristol, roll thru if you want to pontoon on the South Holston Lake. Nicest lake in TN.
I am happy for you two on this journey!❤
Freedom is expressed in different ways with different kinds of actions. Homesteading is 100% action . It is daily creation, daily unfolding, daily learning .
Homesteading is a whole new adventure. Providing wonderful homes for your animals, even though you may process them one day. Its a glorious feeling knowing you can walk your own land, look up and see the stars. You can always hire someone to watch your pLace while you take a roadtrip. The best of both worlds. I am 72 and am enjoying my life on my Canadian homestead. The hardest part is not having someone to share the heavy lifting. I dont have a tractor, but I do have a sturdy wagon. Lol Bless you both and enjoy each day on your new adventure.
Farming, Ranching, Homesteading, Gardening , is a full time job . No days off . That is real. It is good to be real.
Pull nails off and nail new ones back on and say you deconstructed it and put it back together. Screw in some new screws, replace some wood pieces that “broke” during the deconstruction process and make sure there’s some saw dust on the floor for the new pieces of wood you had to cut out. How would they be able to prove you didn’t rebuild it!!!! Just erase this comment afterwards 😉
It's always better to be growing roots
GLAD YALL ARE HAVING A GREAT TURNAROUND NEIGHBORS !! 👋👋🍺🍺👍👍
Throughout this video your "family" (dog, cat and chicken) wandering in and out of shots was a great touch! LOL
It's the responsibility that gives you a purpose...it also builds character and maturity. it's difficult to think that way, at your younger ages...but like it or not, you WILL get older. Now, you are developing roots and working to pay off a secure homesite for yourselves. In your later years you will benefit from this.
Grow where u are planted
Yep, every day on the road and or owning your land is different every day in some way. Adapt & over come it wich you guys have done. On the road & owning land has its pros & cons. Watching the animals grow up in a land owner setting is pretty cool.
thtas what ive found is that when u have farm animals leaving for more than 24 hrs becomes very hard. its not like u can throw them in the truck like the dogs. need to find a animal sitter to come and check on them daily and such. homesteadings not a free for all. theres ALOT of small stuff that needs done daily to keep everything going until you get all your utlilities setup.
Good cheap liven
Wow...with that shaft seal continuing to fail again and again...did you have some kind of internal metal shaving, or metal bur, that maybe kept scoring the seal causing them to repeatedly fail?!
*((((((((((((((((((((((( YES THEY DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO KICK YOU OUT - SENSE YOU REFUSE TO STOP BEING THEIR PROPERTY, LIVE STOCK, CHATTEL! ))))))))))))))))))))))* its all CON-TRACT LAW vs STATUS IN LAW! Sense so many of you REFUSE to honor your ancient foremother and forefathers, you REFUSE TO STOP being someone that you are absolutely NOT, then you are both INCOMPETENT a MINORITY and therefor CLAIMABLE AS A CORPROATE WARD, which gives the STATEOF the power of Attorney over you life! PROPERTY can not own property!
Enclose the front deck for a temporary living area, to give you all a little more room. I need gardens like that. I need to figure out what I can plant with what I’m having issues with my garden. I usually have great garden. Idk if it’s the soil or I planted a little late
TN is a soon to be fullblown leftest hellhole.
Wow, what a kick in the ball bag
I dig it guys
